The Story of World Book Day

Hijacking Ladybirds to get kids reading.

Read On Get On, Save The Children’s drive to get more children reading, focused on education for under-fives this year and ensuring that every nursery has a qualified early-years graduate. They asked us to help them generate noise on World Book Day around the importance of investing in adequate early-learning years and putting pressure on the government to invest in graduates.

To create something shareable and on-topic, we went back to something iconic from our own childhood: Ladybird books. Faithfully recreated in the hand-painted style of the beautiful classics, our images of children and early-years teachers, and our call to promote early-years reading, resonated across Twitter and Facebook with engagement rates far above average.
